Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both of whom were lawyers. When she moved to Oxfordshire when she was five, she enrolled in the Dragon School. Emma's ambition was to become an actor. At the age of 6, she enrolled in the Oxford Stagecoach Theatre Arts branch and took lessons for acting, singing as well as dancing. Through a school play as well as a Stagecoach production, Emma took her role as lead actress at 10 and performed. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 film adaptation from J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel was published in 1999. Emma was discovered by agents via her Oxford teacher. After eight consecutive auditions, director David Heyman told Emma and other applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been cast to play the three lead characters Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's debut film appearance came with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. The film is 2001's top earning film, smashing records during the opening day as well as the first weekend. Critics were impressed with the performance of the film as well as its story. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her outstanding performance. Emma was later awarded five prizes for her performance in the film.
